Which is why the movie plays like a two-hour episode of the show, complete with social commentary and shock ending. I could totally go with you all day about TZ music. Rod Serling, creator of The Twilight Zone, also co-wrote the screenplay for Planet of the Apes. It’s perfect for the episode’s subject matter and a beautiful detail for you if you know what you’re listening to. The song is “Beautiful Dreamer” by Stephen Foster and even though it’s an instrumental version in the episode, its lyrics are from the point of view of someone singing to/serenading their dreary lover in a dream like state who may actually be dead. At the end, Gart “steps” off the train for the final time and that beautiful, cathartic music starts, but it’s the significance of it. The entire of Living Doll and how sinister it is with just a celesta, harp, and bass clarinet. All 3 songs featured in The Twilight Zone season 1 episode 3: Replay, with scene descriptions. The main theme of The Midnight Sun is something I hum from time to time. I’ll add the beautiful melancholic jazzy theme of A Passage For Trumpet and some episodes with certain stock music that I love to death that I can’t find, like in Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?. During the 1980s, anyone suggesting such an idea to most record labels would have been shown the door in a less than polite manner, but Herrmanns music seemed to sell as the 20th century drew to a close, and the continuing interest in The Twilight Zone didnt hurt. Like that shot of the empty carousel after the “That’s all I wanted to tell you” line in Walking Distance and the dream sequences in Death Ship where they’re running back to their loved ones. Two of my favorite episode choices for music too. Also known as the midwater or mesopelagic, the twilight zone is cold and its light is dim, but with flashes of bioluminescencelight produced by living. It lies 200 to 1,000 meters (about 650 to 3,300 feet) below the ocean surface, just beyond the reach of sunlight.
